Abdulkarim Abdulmalik

He is skilled in Public Affairs, Newspaper/Magazine journalism, Broadcasting, Online News publishing, Investigative Reporting and Media Consultancy. He is former Director-General, Kogi State Bureau of Information Services and Grassroots Sensitisation. Earlier, he was Special Adviser on Media and Strategy to Kogi State Governor.

Other positions held by Abdulmalik include, Editor-in-chief, Presidential Diary magazine; General Manager, Zuma Radio, Abuja; and religion columnist (Islam & You) Saturday Times, a stable of the DailyTimes of Nigeria Plc. He was, at various times in the DailyTimes Group of newspapers, Sub-editor TimesWeek magazine, Reporter WeekendTimes, Investigation Editor SundayTimes, and Deputy Editor Abuja Times.

During his reportorial work in Abuja, he covered for the DailyTimes, such beats as Foreign Affairs, Environment, Religious Affairs, the Police, Ministry of Solid Minerals and the Federal Capital Development Authority, FCT. He was Chief Sub-editor at Ed Publications Ltd (publishers of The Broom newspaper), Lagos. Currently the Publisher of Savannah Post, an online publication, he’s also the Executive Director of Hybrid BC Ltd, an Abuja-based publishing, independent broadcast programmes development and production as well as media consultancy firm.

Abdulmalik is a thoroughbred Journalist, Author, Publisher, Biographer and experienced Administrator with a demonstrated history of working in the Mass Media and Information services industry spanning 40 years. He authored the Book – Pilgrims’ Companion: Guide to Successful Hajj & Umrah – first published in 2011 while earlier in 2009, he floated al-Hajj magazine, a premier periodical on Hajj & Islamic Affairs Nigeria.

He has served on various governmental and non-governmental committees and panels few of which are: member, National Committee on Best Environment Friendly Industries in Nigeria organised by the Federal Ministry of Environment (2002); member, Media Team, National Committee on Hajj (2000-2003); one of the three assigned participants representing the DailyTimes newspapers in the 2001 National Media Tour covering the 36 States of Nigeria plus Abuja, the FCT. The nation-wide event was organised by the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Information to enable the Journalists have on-the-spot assessment of the State Governors’ performance especially projects execution in their respective states since Nigeria returned to democratic governance in 1999.

Abdulmalik had also served as Media Consultant to Kabo Air (2002-2005). He was member, Kogi State Judicial Commission of Inquiry on communal violent crisis between Bassa and Egbira Communities in Kogi East in 2018. He was member, Selection/Screening Committee of Solomon & Alice Oniwon Education Foundation as well as Secretary, Board of Trustees, Chief JO Omuya Scholarship Foundation. Both foundations offer scholarships to orphans as well as indigent but brilliant students to study in various higher institutions of learning in Nigeria.

A strong business development professional, Abdulmalik graduated from the famous Nigerian Institute of Journalism, Lagos where he obtained Diploma in Journalism and later, a Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) in Business Administration. He holds B.A (Ed) Islamic Studies and M.A Islamic Studies, University of Abuja. He also holds a Master’s degree (MPA) from the University of Calabar, Nigeria. He’s member, Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ); Fellow, Institute of Management Consultants (FIMC), Nigeria; Certified Management Consultant(CMC), International Council of Management Consulting Institute (ICMCI). He’s a humble recipient of several awards.
