FROM CHAIRMAN’S DESK ✍🏼

Interfaith Dialogue is all about peace, tolerance, harmony and acceptance of religious plurality among the various people of the world. It is not about debate over whose religion is superior to the others. It is about problem solving, mutual understanding and encouraging acquisition of knowledge of other people’s faith, creeds as well as appreciating areas of similarity and how to live peacefully with the differences. Interfaith Dialogue unlocks religious dogmatism and enhances pragmatism. To achieve these, the role of the mass media can not be overemphasized hence the birth of the Guild of Interfaith Media Practitioners (GIMP) to promote Interfaith Dialogue and religious tolerance.

Our Mission therefore, is to support mass media practitioners reporting on religion to strengthen mass media promotion of interfaith dialogue towards achieving religious tolerance and harmony.

The GIMP shall create knowledge sharing interface among religion columnists and journalists involved in covering and writing news stories and articles on religion; deepening their understanding of religion to reflect in their work.

It shall collaborate with governmental and non-governmental agencies involved in the promotion of interfaith dialogue and cooperation in Nigeria and other parts of the world.

It shall also embark on intensive public enlightenment on religious tolerance using conventional media as well as the social media.

This way, the much needed multicultural tolerance, peace, harmony and Interfaith acceptance will be enhanced in our diverse society.

Chairman, GIMP

If the enemy is inclined towards peace, make peace with them. And put your trust in Allah. Indeed, He ˹alone˺ is the All-Hearing, All-Knowing. (Qur'an, 8:61)

O believers, if an evildoer brings you any news, verify ˹it˺ so you do not harm people unknowingly, becoming regretful for what you have done. (Qur’an, 49:6)

Do not argue with the People of the Book unless gracefully, except with those of them who act wrongfully. And say, “We believe in what has been revealed to us and what was revealed to you. Our God and your God is ˹only˺ One. And to Him we ˹fully˺ submit. (Qur’an, 29:46)
