Former Deputy Governor of Kogi State, Elder Simon Achuba has called on Christians to emulate and exhibit in words and actions sacrificial life of Jesus Christ, characterized with love, peace, kindness, empathy, humility, self-denial and selfless services.
Achuba, in his Easter statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Akor Sylvester, appealed to Christians not to go back to sinful lives after forty days of fasting, praying and alms giving that symbolizes forty days of period of Lent.
He enjoined them to live life of holiness, righteousness, selflessness, humility, love, steadfastness and uprightness.
The former Deputy Governor said It was pertinent for Christians to imbibe the lessons and significance of Easter by genuine repentance ,reconciling with one another, putting smiles on the faces of less privileged, visitations to orphanages, prisons and hospitals which is the reason for the season.
He said, “One has not lived unless he lives for others”, saying “As Christ has died for us,we should be ready and willing to live and, if need be, die for others”.
Achuba pointed out that “Easter should be days filled with love, with appreciation of what God has done for mankind, days of goodwill to our neighbours, days of divine expectation to see the Lord, even as His disciples saw Him at Galilee.
” If we love with the spirit of Easter in our hearts, governance would work, electoral reforms would be easier to accomplish, funds would be judiciously utilized for the good of the larger number, the leadership would love and cherish the led. That is the essence of Easter, which we recommend to all Nigerians, indeed, to all humanity”,.
“If we imbibe this in all areas of our lives, then we are on the path to a glorious life. A life that
pleases God, and which honours mankind”.
On Kogites, the former Deputy Governor urged the the religion leaders to continue to preach peace and unity across the state for the greater good of the people, maintaining that development cannot strive in the atmosphere of crisis.
He called on Christians and all Kogites to be security cautious even as they celebrate the Easter. The former Deputy Governor also enjoined them to remember the less privileged and show them love at this important occasion.
