A consummate professional, Abdullahi has spent his entire work life of about 40 years in the media industry. He began his Journalism career as staff reporter with the New Nigerian Newspapers Ltd, otherwise appropriately dubbed the Nigerian Al-Ahram owing to its authoritative reports and pungent editorial comments.
Abdullahi was popularly called an all-rounder on editorial assignments at the New Nigerian Newspapers (NNN). In 1983, he was assigned to establish the NNN Abuja Bureau. Along with two others, he was appointed rewrite editor. He was also pioneer member of the new Nigerian Editorial Board, headed by a veteran journalist, Chief Mike Pearce who doubles as Editor-in-chief of the NNN at the time. Abdullahi was at one time Energy Editor and a veteran of OPEC meetings coverage in Vienna or Geneva in 1990s.
He moved to the United Newspaper Ltd (UNL), Abuja as Editorial Director/Chief Operating Officer. UNL, among other titles, published the News Express, Abuja’s first evening newspaper as well as Al-Ahram, a weekly newspaper in Hausa language.
In 2005, Media Trust Ltd engaged Abdullahi as copy editor. He was later appointed editorial board member of the newspaper. He has held numerous training sessions for reporters across the titles of the Trust newspapers.
Abdullahi is a media consultant with vast knowledge of Abuja’s intricate bureaucracy and the city’s political establishment.
