He is currently the Managing Director/Editor-in-Chief at Independent Newspapers Limited where had served as Editor in 2016. Prior to Independent Newspapers he had served as Head, Corporate Communications at the Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (PTAD); Group Business Editor at THISDAY Newspapers; News Editor at BusinessDay Media; Head, Media & External Relations, and Economic Intelligence Officer both at First Bank of Nigeria Plc.
At First Bank, Omanufeme also served as Acting Head, Corporate Communications in 2010. In his capacity as acting Head, he led all communications activities for the Bank, including branding, external/media relations, and events management. One successful event handled is the opening of the bank’s Beijing Office in 2010. He developed a crisis communication plan for the bank apart from the overall communications and public affairs strategy.
Further more, he worked at the Economic Intelligence Unit of the Bank’s Corporate Planning & Group Coordination where he mined data and did research for the Group’s strategy position. He also served as corporate communications executive at Zenith Bank.
Omanufeme has had varying work experience in the media and financial public relations, spanning over 28 years and more than a decade of cognate banking experience. His background and experience include content development, research, relationship management and crisis communication management. He has in-depth knowledge and proven achievement in media management, reporting and marketing of financial services products. His other previous job experiences include an 18 months stint with Equity Bank of Nigeria Plc as Corporate Affairs Officer and a two-year stay with THISDAY Newspapers as Assistant Business Editor. At THISDAY, he was responsible for reporting the financial markets, editing, and writing a column – Inside Broad Street. He also had a stint with Daily Times of Nigeria Plc.
Omanufeme has participated in various workshops, courses, seminars and programmes both locally and abroad.Steve is an author – A Wilderness of Mirrors & Other Poems (2009) -and a recipient of an academic prize (The Best Student Award in English) from the University of Benin. His personality traits include broad vision combined with a proactive, resilient approach and a knack for details.
