World Council of Churches General Secretary, Rev. Prof. Dr Jerry Pillay extends greetings to all Muslims across the world as they celebrate the month of Ramadan.
“May this festive period be one of deep devotion, a time that embraces fasting and reflection, repentance and forgiveness, generosity and joy,” said Pillay. “Ramadan offers an opportunity for families and friends to unite in prayer, joyfully growing closer to God, as a reminder to the pious values of self discipline and spiritual purification.”
Pillay reflected that Ramadan also directs attention towards the countless individuals suffering from deprivation of basic necessities and those enduring injustice and oppression.
“Such religious observances are also an essential part of Christians all over the world,” he said. “Especially as we draw closer to Easter where we are called to fast, pray, and identify with the sufferings of all people in the world today, and to hold out hope as we pray and work together for justice, peace, and unity.”
Pillay concluded: “May your celebrations be filled with joy, peace, and a deeper connection to God and one another.”
